While installing a ViperTrak tracking Unit is relatively straightforward, we recommend you have a qualified auto electrician install the unit for you. This ensures the tracking unit will be unobtrusive and properly wired, with the antenna placed in the best position for tracking coverage. We provide an installers checklist upon account activation which can be used to ensure a proper installation by your auto electrician. A GPS tracking unit is a navigation device normally carried by a moving vehicle or person that uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) to track the device's movements and determine its location. The recorded location data can either be stored within the tracking unit or transmitted to an Internet-connected device using the cellular modem embedded in the unit. This allows the location to be displayed against a map backdrop either in real time or when analysing the track later, using GPS tracking software.
GPS will generally track anywhere in Australia through a satellite connection. In order to track in real-time, our trackers need to have access to a data connection using Telstra's 3g network. If there's no data connection, our trackers will store any GPS location data locally on memory, and upload all the positions as soon as it's back in range of Telstra's network.
As above, ViperTrak will give live updates whenever the vehicle is within Telstra's state-of-the-art network. When outside of Telstra's network, real-time tracking is not available, though we do store GPS location co-ordinates locally and will upload them as soon as the vehicle is back within range of Telstra's network. Our GPS Tracker is generally able to be tracked within a 3 to 8 metre radius. This may vary if installed incorrectly or line-of-sight is obscured.
To ensure data usage is kept to a minimum, we update our tracker positions every 30 seconds.
We provide a three year replacement warranty on all our trackers.
You can, be we recommend you use a verified and qualified auto electrician to ensure the tracker is installed correctly and in an optimal location.
Unfortunately we do not allow other models of GPS trackers on our system, as our software is designed from the ground up for specific hardware. This allows us to ensure the product works at it's best as we have greater control on the hardware and software being used.
Our trackers are designed to be hard-wired and non-removable, and as such will require mounting upon installation.
The tracker should be placed in a discrete location, with the antenna installed in a place that is not obscured by metal or other forms of electrical interference.
As many as you want! We allow an unlimited amount of vehicles to be tracked providing they have a ViperTrak GPS Tracking unit.
Yes! Once you've gotten started, we give you the ability to create as many users as you need under your account. Each user will have their own login, and you can assign groups of trackers to individual users.
ViperTrak is a cloud-based system that is accessible from any web browser, no additional software is required.
Our system is designed for desktop, though we also offer a live tracking functionality through a progressive web app - available at vipertrak.com.au/mobile - which can be saved to your home screen for easy access.
For safety reasons, the vehicle will immobilise when the ignition is switched off.
This is sometimes caused by using an outdated/insecure browser, caching issues or a poor internet connection. First, try updating to the latest version of your Browser. We suggest using Google Chrome. You can also try clearing your Browser's cache and cookies (refer to your browsers website for more information).
There could be several reasons why your tracker is longer recording. Providing your account is paid and up to date, first check to make sure you haven't accidently removed or disabled the tracker within your account. Check with your administrator first to ensure the tracker is enabled and functioning. If you're still having problems, it may be due to the tracker wiring from a poor installation. If you're still unable to resolve the issue, give us a call on 1300 779 762 and talk with one of our support staff.
